Employment conditions:
The Department of Proteomics at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research is offering a PhD stipend in the Proteomics and Cell Signaling Group. The position is offered for a period of three years and employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) on 1 October 2008, enclosure 5. The salary depends on seniority, as agreed between the Ministry of Finance and AC within the range of 23.000-30.000 DKK/month (approximately 3.100-4.000 Euro/month) for a PhD position plus a pension supplement of 17 %.
The PhD candidate will be expected, over the period of the stipend, to acquire experience in teaching or other types of presentations. The tentative start date is 1 March 2011.
Background:
The research at the Department of Proteomics is headed by Prof. Dr. Matthias Mann and consists of three independent groups (group leaders: Dr. Chunaram Choudhary, Dr. Michael L. Nielsen and Prof. Jesper V. Olsen). You will be part of a young and dynamic team consisting of about 20 international researchers from EU, Asia and USA. The working language at the Center is English. We use cutting-edge MS technologies for unbiased identification and quantification of posttranslational modifications as well as for global proteome quantitation (Choudhary and Mann, Nat Rev Mol Cell Biol. 2010 Jun;11(6):427-39.; Choudhary et al., Mol Cell. 2009 Oct 23;36(2):326-39.; Choudhary et al., Science. 2009 Aug 14;325(5942):834-40.). The department aims at continuously improving and applying the proteomic platform to investigate diverse biological processes. Using these approaches we will study cellular outcomes at “systems-level” in response to different perturbations (such as growth factor stimulation, gene knockdown etc.). Furthermore, we use protein and peptide pull-down approaches to identify specific interaction partners. In addition to a state-of-the-art mass spectrometry infrastructure, the department is also well equipped for performing follow-up studies using molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry techniques.
Study description:
The Department of Proteomics, Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) offers one PhD fellowship for appointment by March 2011 or soon thereafter.
It is a prerequisite that the PhD candidate is enrolled as PhD student at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen, according to the rules stipulated in “Bekendtgørelse Nr. 18 af 14. januar 2008 om ph.d.-graden”.
